Whole lotta sandbaggin’ (the good kind)

YHC was presented with the opportunity to Q for the first time from site Q Jitterbug (thanks for getting me involved). Sent out a bat signal for medicine balls and jump ropes, but wound up with 40-lb sandbags courtesy of Slummy. Workout went from being sports-themed to a floodfighter-inspired direction.

Food for thought:

Leaders are not necessarily the ones telling you what to do. Look for leaders in those who make being present a priority. They are the ones who encourage you, ask how you are, and are willing to partner up. They lead by example, are characterized more by humility than by confidence in their own abilities, and they are ready for the challenge of taking a problem and making it right.

Since Sweat Angel is missing the “mosey factor”, we drive right into working those physiques.

WARM-A-RAMA:

Side straddle hops  X 15

Abe Vigodas X15 (Q had to be set straight on the speed of cadence)

Bobby Hurleys (with a Wojo squat to make it true blue) X15

Pickle pushers X15 (Q tried a witty quip about the exercise that received a crickets response)

 

MAIN THING:

The PAX split into teams of 4. Two stay put and do exercises from a drawn card. Hearts=Upper body, Clubs=Legs, Spades=Core, Diamonds=Weights. The other two head down to the frisbee (best thing I could find) with a sandbag and back, at which point they switch roles with their teammates. After a few rounds, the Q had the brilliant idea of calling out a partner carry alternative to the sandbag—no takers. Lesson learned on the VQ. (The frisbee was also kicked further away from its original position by about 20 yards by Etch-A-Sketch for being too easy)

The ‘democratic’ side of the workout came when we circled up and, starting a 12 o’clock, the PAX chose their own exercise for us to perform (Crunchy frogs, over/unders, etc.) We got through about 6 exercises before time was up.

CIRCLE OF TRUST

Bulldog- Short Circuit to Q up 3rd F at Starbucks “Mammon” (a man’s work)

Jitterbug- backpacking adventure after workouts on Friday 4/12. ONLY 34 miles!

Wojo- the ‘unwighted’ Triple Lindy is Saturday 4/13. “We’ll just leave it at that.”

 

Short Circuit took as out with an uplifting word of gratitude for being able to come out, for the privilege of leadership, and the blessing of God’s grace.
