With the headlines filled with Russian hack jobs and various bromance’s with Putin, YHC had rekindled memories from the 1980’s when the United States and Soviet Union were bitter enemies. One notable event that took place during the cold war was (in my HUMBLE opinion) one of the greatest sports victories YHC ever witnessed. Obviously, that event was the USA vs. Soviet Union hockey game during the 1980 winter Olympics. This victory over the Soviets was described by ABC sports anchor Jim McKay “to a group of Canadian college football players defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers”. The USA team could not defeat the Soviets based on talent and luck alone, they needed conditioning – wear down the opponent! If you have a chance check out the movie Miracle which is a docudrama about coach Herb Brooks and the USA men’s team. The running events at the stampede were inspired from the movie.

COT – YHC took the team out by reciting  quotes from the late Coach Herb Brooks (#Stellar Leader)

“Great moments are born from great opportunities.”

“My recruiting key — I looked for PEOPLE first, athletes second. I wanted people with a sound value system as you cannot buy values. You’re only as good as your values. I learned early on that you do not put greatness into people…but somehow try to pull it out.”

“Success is won by those who believe in winning and then prepare for that moment. Many want to win, but how many prepare? That is the big difference. A sound value system held water then, holds water today, and will hold water in the future.”
