16 veterans and 1 FNG (Daniel F – Lion’s Den) posted to tie an attendance record of 17 at #Fenceline. Today was a good mix of regulars and some new faces. With our FNG coming in hot, it gave YHC a chance to see some faces but more importantly give the Pax an opt-out clause. As advertised, a splinter option was offered up but the pax chose the Big Mitt way. Roping our FNG into the fold, we got a good reminder of why we were there. Mission statement and disclaimer ensued and we were off:

***3rd F Notes***
John Chapter 13
- 12 chapters for 3 years of ministry
- 8 chapters left for the last days (tells us a lot is going on)
- 13-19 Last 24-36 hours of Jesus’ life
- Rest is post-resurrection
- Chapter 13 is a “seminar” before the cross
- How to live life while He is gone
- The 12 still don’t get it. We flipped to Luke 22 and looked at verse 24
- ” A dispute also arose among them to which of them was considered to be the greatest”
- Thoughts of who was going to run the ship when He was gone
- Back in John – 13:1
- Just before the Passover
- Passover = Perfect Time
- death was over Egypt, blood of a lamb was placed over the door–death passes over
- symbolism for Christ on the cross
- Passover = Perfect Time
- Just before the Passover
- vs 2 “prompted”
- we see in scripture often of being positively prompted, but here we see the devil prompting Judas
- reminder that both sides have the power to #prompt and we have the power to #choose
- “It’s not a sin unless you choose it”
- reminder that both sides have the power to #prompt and we have the power to #choose
- The title of the first part of the chapter “Jesus Washes His Disciples’ Feet
- This is often illustrated as Jesus’ servitude towards His disciples and that of the world. And that His disciples should take and lead this attitude into the world. All true
- Jesus sets to wash Peter’s feet and he’s having nothing to do with it.
- Christ says in verse 8b – “Unless I was you, you have no part with me.”
- Peter takes the extreme and says “not just my feet by my hands and my head as well!”
- signifies Peter was “all in” for Jesus, but still didn’t get the message
- Jesus responds – “those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.”
- Bath = saved
- Feet wash = repentance
- Jewish custom – when traveling through the “desert” and entering one’s house, it is proper for a bowl of water to be by the front door. A servant if present, would wash guests feet before coming into the house.
- You don’t trudge dirt into someone’s house
- Jesus – don’t trudge “dirt” (sin) into my Father’s house (heaven)
- Washing of the feet symbolizes repentance for sin.
- additionally, it is monumental for a relationship with Christ
- Judiciously forgiven
- even though we are guilty, we are found innocent
- However, we can be relationally separated.
- Interesting timing in which this is taking place. Before a meal. Repentance is not something we do once a quarter, once a year, season etc. The dirt we accumulate is much and frequent. Our repentance to preserve our relationship should indicate the same.
- we see in scripture often of being positively prompted, but here we see the devil prompting Judas
- Vs 12 – “DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I HAVE DONE FOR YOU?”
We finished up there for the morning and will pick up and finish John 13 next week.
