A dozen pax (including YHC and 1 FNG)(Skip Purcell – “Neese’s) chose wisely this a.m. (Indiana Jones, First Knight voice) and posted at the #Fenceline. The weather was desirable, perfect for a good sweat, but mild enough to breathe. We would need a lot of those, as the pax soon found out.
Thanks to our FNG, it was nice to inform and remind the men why we were present. Along with introductions and disclosures, YHC attempted to add some suspense in saying “I’ve never done this before” and “we’ll see”…

Moleskin
- As previously noted. J-Love and Hushpuppy had a great time today

***3rd F Notes/Highlights***Bird’s Nest Site Q***
One of the most interesting/important lessons thus far in our study of John. With the best of intentions of covering Chapter 9, our conversation led us in an unforgettable discussion, and we only covered 4 verses. Clearly, it was too important to gloss over. This is YHC’s best effort to recap in an understandable message. However, I would suggest if you weren’t present, you find a Pax that was for discussion and clarification.
- Chapter 8 recap
- Claim
- Light of the world
- MRI on people
- sensed spiritual blindness
- Leads Jesus into next miracle found in Chapter 9
- Heal a blind man (physically/spiritually)
- MRI on people
- Chapter 9 (1-4)
- Jesus and His disciples come across a blind man (verse 1)
- Disciples – “Who sinned?”
- man? parents?
- Jesus and His disciples come across a blind man (verse 1)
- Question? – Who do we blame for our misfortune?
- God, parents, world?
- Do we deserve misfortune – based on our transgressions?
- A – You bet! Fortunately we have a merciful, loving God!
- It was a dark moment for the disciples and their line of thinking. In the presence of God but cannot truly grasp His character with this suggestive thinking.
- Disciples are about to receive theological ABCs
- Jesus denies that this man’s condition is the result of sin (of himself or his parents)
- Vs 3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned”
- Explanation
- “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him…” vs 4
- Jesus furthers his claim in 4b and 5 that He was sent by God and that He is the light of the world.
- Vs 4 Analysis
- As Paul said/recorded in his 2nd letter to the Corinthians. Chapter 12, verses 9-12
- His grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness (vs 9) – Jesus
- vs 10 – That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong
- Completely unique to Christianity
- even sin, and evil has its purpose. Only through the grace of Christ can it be used for good.
- Jesus will use our misfortunes, shortcomings, transgressions for our and His good.
- Fortunate we have a redemptive God – He seeks to redeem us
- to be co-creators with Him as it was in Genesis.
- We don’t want a fair God.
- that would not work out well for any of us.
- NOTE: Statement above is not to be confused with a just God. We have a JUST God
- Truth: We have not been “forgiven”. Sin just wasn’t wiped away and forgotten about.
- Someone else paid our penalty for the sin- Jesus Christ on the cross when He absorbed all of the sin of entire world and experienced separation from His Father for the first time
- In that way we are forgiven.
- #perfectsacrifice
- As Paul said/recorded in his 2nd letter to the Corinthians. Chapter 12, verses 9-12
- Choice
- Heart – when you read of heart in scripture, the reference is the same as when you see will, or spirit
- Something born with. It is not pyhsical
- A surgeon cannot go in and identify your will and remove it
- Something born with. It is not pyhsical
- 30,000+ choices made each day
- We are robots w/o will
- Will is damaged. Born into sin
- Never be able to choose perfectly on our own
- surrender is the only way
- Hope – We have none in ourselves, 0
- We have ALL the hope in Christ
- John 3:3 – MUST be reborn
- Alternative
- Matthew 5:20 “unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven”
- Matthew 5:48 “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
- Just a couple examples of how we are hopeless in ourselves
- Counterfeit teachings could never get you there
- Why Jesus spoke against the religious system (to say it nicely)
- Heart – when you read of heart in scripture, the reference is the same as when you see will, or spirit
- Will compared to a CPU and contains 4 parts
- 1. Emotion
- – anger, jealousy, sadness, etc
- good
- formed poorly
- will caves to what your emotions want
- – anger, jealousy, sadness, etc
- 2. Thought Life
- – fantasy land/fear (wealth, power, sex)
- 2 Corinthians 10:5 …and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
- 1st thought, no responsible for = temptation; 2nd though = on you
- 3. Body
- input/will
- sex, food, over exercise, not enough exercise/lazy
- 1 Corinthians 6:18
- “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins agains their own body. Do you knot know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
- 4. Relationships/Other People
- 1. Emotion
- Every sin, you chose/choose it
- If you didn’t choose it, you didn’t sin.
- Every person in Hell or that will be in Hell, chose to be there.
- We all have a choice to make
Bird’s Nest took us out. Next week we will continue in Chapter 9 and aim to discuss Jesus’ miracle of healing a man born blind.
