YHC thought a message from Colonel Jessup might stir up the Pax into a post on another weather adverse Tuesday. Fitting, #afewgoodpax showed up and actually got out of the car. I’m sure the temptation was present to just stay in the car and snap photos of YHC getting drenched as he lifted the flag and posted the workout.

Highlights from 3rdF at Search Office on Pembroke led by Bird’s Nest

Last time we conquered Chapter 3 of John, verses 1-12 which highlighted a relationship that formed between Jesus and Nicodemus.

  • Nicodemus
    • Pharisee
    • member of Jewish ruling council
    • acknowledged Jesus as a teacher who has come from God (Father)
    • Nicodemus didn’t fully understand what Jesus spoke of
      • Jesus highlights the necessity to be born again
        • Spiritual Rebirth

Today

  • In Nicodemus we saw an internal change. We don’t hear from him again until Chapter 7 surrounding Jesus’ arrest (vs 32)(50)
    • “Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing” (vs 51) (Geographical/Intellectual bias then follows regarding Galilee)
    • Jesus captures the hearts of the temple guards in amazement. (vs 35-36) (45-46)
  • Chapter 19:38 (Burial of Jesus)
    • Here we see Joseph of Arimathea use a family burial plot for Jesus. Joseph was a secret admirer of Jesus> he was fearful of Jewish rulers
      • Nicodemus helped Jesus in the burial of Jesus
        • NOTE: Typically following a crucifixion bodies were massed dumped and left for the dogs
  • Question: how many Passovers did occurred during Jesus’ ministry. Debate on 4,3,2,1. In scripture we are primarily focusing on the first and last. (2)
  • John 3:22John (The Baptist) testifies regarding Jesus again
    • JTB acknowledges that he is not the Messiah and that Jesus is!
      • Jesus had acquired quite a following asking to be baptized.
      • vs 30 “He must become greater; I must become less”
        • JTB was humbly turning over his ministry to the ‘one from heaven’ (vs 27)
  • Discussion:
    • Saying: If God could have found another way (to save us) He would have. That’s indicated by Jesus asking the Father to relieve this burden from Him. (Matthew 26:39-42) again in Luke and in Mark
      • Jesus simply asked that the Father’s will be done, not His own. “Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
    • Galatians 2:21
      • “I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”

We finished up with discussion off “How can a loving God be just?” and/or “How can a loving God not be just”

Bird’s Nest prayed us out and we’ll start next week in John, Chapter 4 as Jesus visits with a Samaritan Woman. #giveitaway #inviteinviteinvite
