YHC takes responsibility for poor communication regarding this workout being “On” and the turnout. He didn’t verify the condition of the field until 10pm the night prior. Perhaps he should work for the city or maybe he was just in Texas for too many years and forgot the rate at which snow melts in the Triad. Also, any “amphibious” minded folks that think 08 gets any preferential treatment is dead wrong. I’d be surprised if the kids go back at all this week.

Nonetheless, a solid 3 pax + the Q took on the AO headfirst (only the Q fell during setup – 0 witnesses). Due to the limited terrain available, the plan for our 45 minutes of getting better than the rest on this Tuesday morning was a modified Murph.

Highlights from 3rdF at Search Office on Pembroke led by Bird’s Nest

Revisit Jesus being announced by John the Baptist (JTB) as “the Lamb of God”

  • Sacrificial system in place
    • sacrifice/slaughter of lamb replaced their sin

Starting Point: John 1:35

  • 2 disciples of JTB followed Jesus after His baptism
    • Jesus
      • What do you want? (not a GPS moment) (chance for men to confess and pronounce)
      • Jesus in that question pursued those 2 men just as he does us
  • NOTE: Does Jesus ask us this question? What do YOU want?
  • 2 Disciples
    • Andrew (Simon Peter’s brother)
    • Most likely, John (author of this book)
  • Andrew
    • 1st action
      • EH’d his brother, Simon (Peter)
      • verse 41 Andrew:Peter – “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ)
    • Simon (Peter)
      • Simon: Translation = Small Pebble
      • Vs 42: Jesus looked at him and said “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas”  Translation: Peter
      • Peter: Translation = Rock
  • NOTE: Andrew’s 1st action was to tell somebody. That’s what we do in F3. We have found something worth telling somebody about. We found something that has answered a need. We know others have needs Question: What has Christ meant to us? Is HE worth inviting someone to?
  • Jesus took a small pebble and made/used him as a rock
    • Lord wants to grab all of us and use us for our best
    • Question: How many times has the world called you a small pebble?
      • We are all rocks to God – He uses us to build His kingdom
      • We all have a place (right- vs 12) in the kingdom and a hand in building the kingdom
  • Verse 43
    • Jesus heads North to Galilee and finds Phillip says “Follow Me” (not only implying directionally)
  • Jesus, Phillip, and Nathaniel
    • Phillip – like Andrew was from Bethsaida
    • Phillip EHs Nathaniel
      • “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, about whom the prophets also wrote — Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
        • retort – “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?”
      • Nazareth – think “Fayettenam” a military town. If something bad was in the world, it also happened in Nazareth. Jesus grew up surrounded by the worst of happenings. (Real Life)
      • Phillip – “Come and see” (vs 46b)
        • the sales pitch we are all familiar with – 5:30a.m. What!?!? – (Come check us out, 1 time) = “Come and see”
    • Jesus:Nathaniel encounter
      • Jesus: “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”
      • Nathaniel: “How do you know me?”
      • Jesus: ” I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Phillip called you.” (praying)(to God, to Jesus)
      • Nathaniel pronounces “Rabbi (Jesus) you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.”
      • Jesus tells Nathaniel ‘you will see greater things’
        • Jesus knowing Nathaniel is well read, He then adds:
          • “Very truly i tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
          • Jesus is referencing Genesis 28:12
        • With Nathaniel this is evidence of the parable Jesus referenced in Matthew 13: 5 & 20 (1st soil)
          • Nathaniel heard/saw the word/Word and immediately received it with Joy
    • Verse 51 -Genesis 28:13
      • referencing Jacob’s ladder
        • Israel started with Abraham, followed by his son Issac, and his son Jacob
      • 2 ladders in life
        • Ascetic ladder of life on earth
        • spiritual ladder for life eternally in the Kingdom
        • Question: Which ladder are you climbing?
    • Q&A: by the Pax –
      • Q: Apostles were all killed for their “beliefs”, if it weren’t true wouldn’t some have caved?
      • A: Bird’s Nests – Apostles died for what they SAW
        • That leads to the importance of 1st hand knowledge of and living with Christ by the Apostles and those who write in the Book
        • The apostles could not be convinced otherwise of something they had lived and witnessed, which led to their death. Beliefs can be changed, life cannot.

Bird’s Nest prayed us out and we’ll pick up next Tuesday starting chapter 2 as we begin to take a look at some miracles. We still have plenty of room for veteran and new pax alike. You know someone that needs this.  YHC would urge the men to take a look at the questions in bold and search within.  #giveitaway
