All were invited but the memo must have said Pitchers & Catchers only for the 5 brave that showed up to battle the 18º degree cold. Position players are prima donnas anyways. YHC was not making small talk when he asked if “we had any baseball fans”.
3rdF Highlights below announcements
Intro, Disclaimer, 0 FNGs (Need some men to take advantage of these sub-freezing temperature names) Brief description of the positions on the diamond and their numerical placement. Due to cold weather and injuries amongst #Natville pax, YHC was determined to make this a shoulder-friendly post.
Warm-A-Rama
Pax lined up along the baseline after doing a couple laps around the court
- Lateral Shuffle, defensive slides, A-skips (regular, height, distance), High-Knees, Butt-Kicks, Zig-Zag Bounds in various order and levels of intensity. YHC made it known to go slow, get the blood flowing and take time. Exercise intensity normally went 50%, 75% and a couple reps, full tilt

Highlights from 3rdF at Search Office on Pembroke led by Bird’s Nest
- Reviewed the Purpose of John’s gospel that he played out in Chapter 20 verses 30 & 31
- Trusting Him, we may have life
- Jesus came to earth, came to offer life
- some men receive(d) Him, some stayed in darkness
- Offered the ‘right’ to become children of God (the Father)
- Reviewed John the Baptist (JTB)
- Isaiah prophesied in 700 BC, Chapter 40:3-5 “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord (Jesus); make straight in the desert a highway for our God (Jesus)…”
- John 1:23a “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness”
- Front-runner – John got the audience ready – pre-game show
- 50 miles from Jerusalem
- Large ministry
- message of repentance for the coming
- Levites (teachers of the law) visited, checked him out
- asked him (John the Baptist) if he were Elijah (as Malachi prophesied)
- asked him (John the Baptist) if he were Moses (the Prophet)
- Message of ‘make straight the way for the Lord’ John 1:23b
- Baptized people in the Jordan River
- with water as an outwardly symbol acknowledging change/repentance
- Points to Christ
- He is already among us – “but among you stands one you do not know.” John 1:26
- Isaiah prophesied in 700 BC, Chapter 40:3-5 “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord (Jesus); make straight in the desert a highway for our God (Jesus)…”
- Looked at John the Baptist’s childhood
- Luke 1:80 – And the child grew and become strong in spirit; and he lived in the wilderness until he appeared publicly to Israel
- Learning took place in Jerusalem, in the temples.
- God prepared JTB in the wilderness, which points to a broken system and uncommitted hearts
- Mark 7:6-9
- Jesus lights into the Israelites calling them hypocrites, only honor Him with their lips, hearts are far from Him, worship in vain, only teach human rules, let go of the commands of God, holding onto human traditions.
- Hypocrite in Greek means – “play actor”
- Luke 1:80 – And the child grew and become strong in spirit; and he lived in the wilderness until he appeared publicly to Israel
- Verse 29
- JTB proclaims Jesus as “the Lamb of God”
- who takes away the sin of the world!
- called the Lamb because of the sacrificial system known to the Jews
- a sacrifice had to be made for their sin and it went like this:
- hand on lamb’s head ( actual animal) 1 year old blameless male
- given a knife
- person slit lamb’s throat
- guilt came upon person…animal did not deserve that death for what the man had done
- real lamb, TEMPORARY forgiveness
- a sacrifice had to be made for their sin and it went like this:
- JTB proclaims Jesus as “the Lamb of God”
- Verse 34
- JTB testifies about Jesus “I have seen and I testify that this God’s Chose One”
- distinction made between the baptism processes
- John baptized with water professing an outward sign, public declaration/proclamation
- Jesus baptizes the heart while also making an outward sign, public declaration/proclamation, but also yielding a change internally and in action.
- John has lineage to Jesus through his mother, Elizabeth
- Elizabeth and Mary, Jesus’ mother, were cousins.
Bird’s Nest prayed us out and we’ll pick up next Tuesday finishing chapter 1 starting with John’s disciples following Jesus. We still have plenty of room for veteran and new pax alike. You know someone that needs this. #giveitaway
